| Bio: | A very brief bio of me would read "An Aspie, a SCAdian (very old timer... AS single digits), a nerd (and proud of it) and a geek, and a separated man who is a proud parent". But there is much more to me than that. First, I figured I should add something about me and the SCA, since many folks here know me though there. In the SCA, I am mostly known as Bonheddwr (Lord) Cinnion map Liuelin map Higuel. For those of you who are confounded by the Welsh and what many consider to be their overuse of consonants, you would pronounce that as Kenyon, though some, including long-term friends such as Avatar (name changed back to his long discarded first persona to protect the guilty) tend to call me Cinnamon, just like the spice. :) Anyways, I have been in the SCA for many years, having attended my first event way back in AS 9 in Dernhealde with a friend of mine who was looking at attending Ohio U. As the joke goes, I am old enough to remember the vote for dirt. And to help some of you remember who I am, I have pics of my device and myself in garb in my public pics. Well, since then, I have tried a number of things and pursued a number of interests. Some, I found I was lousy with, and did not spend too much time on. Others, such as C&I and playing the recorder, I found I was so-so or OK with, but the typical time constraints of a student made it difficult to pursue. But some, such as my heavy weapons fighting, I have continued to pursue as I can, but none have been something I have excelled in. And so, while often serving as an officer of a local group or a barony in the years I have spent in the Northern Oaken or Constellation regions of the Midrealm, I have mainly blended into the background. However, my many years in the SCA, along with some of the folks I have been around since my earliest days, who are now "Duke Sir" and the like, have me knowing folks from all over the Knowne World. So generally, I am greeting persons I do not recognize with "Greetings! I'm Cinnion. I am lousy with names, but it is lovely to meet you again!". This is really common right now, given that after a major encounter with "Real Life" (such as being a part of Lucent's greater Bell Labs while the U.S.S. Lucent-ania proceeded to sink, with more than 100K engineers such as myself being laid off in the process, a bad back, and an aging father who passed away), I am coming back from GAFIAting for around 6 years, and so, there are a bunch of people I am meeting after many years who I do not recognize right off. But since coming back, I have once again started off helping in the SCA, I have stepped up to the plate to work on getting a group which formed back when I was Middle Marches baronial marshal through to being full status. The being an Aspie means that I have Asperger's Syndrome. Some might consider it to be "suffering" or "aflicted", but I consider it to be something for which the best term is "a diffability", since it is not only responsible, in some degree, for many of my problems (such as the state of my failing marriage), but also for things such as my skills as a computer programmer, which is something which I started doing back in the early-mid 70's, when I was in the 5th grade. My main methods of stimming over the years has included bicycling, swimming and playing Unreal Tournament. For many years, I was unable to ride a bike, not having one, but I have finally started getting back into that again after buying a new good bike with part of my inheritance. I just wish I could do it more often to get rid of the stress I have been going through. Indeed, I wish I had been able to ride it to get rid of some of the stress I went through during the past 5-10 years... perhaps if I had, the mixture of one half of a couple with clinical depression which was going untreated plus the other half having undiagnosed AS might not have been as lethal to the relationship as it appears to have been. As for my being a nerd and a geek, which is also typical of someone with AS, if you take a look at my interests, you will see many of the areas which I enjoy. Some are halfway common, while others are really out there. As for being a proud parent, I have a teenage daughter who is much like I was when I was her age (she probably has AS as well). If you read my blogs (some of which I still need to re-post here from MS), you will find me making comments about her from time to time.... some out of frustration, some out of pride. But if you are a parent, you will know the drill. And there are also the two grown daughters from my wife's first marriage. They were not even teenagers when my wife and I got together, and now they have kids of their own, some of whom are nearing the age they were way back when. You know you did well when they appologize to you for all the things they did back then... they are good eggs. I just hope that we can continue to have a decent relationship if my marriage goes the way it looks to be going.
